MBE / WBE / DBE Certification
The City of Austin's Department of
Small & Minority Business Resources (SMBR) is responsible for the implementation of
the certification process for the City of Austin and for ensuring that only firms that meet
the eligibility criteria are certified as MBEs or WBEs.
It is very important that all questions on the application are answered and that all required
documents be submitted in order for your firm to be evaluated accurately and promptly.
We encourage you to schedule a visit with one of our certification staff members to walk you through the certification
process and to provide you with information on how to fill out the certification forms, the type of information that will be requested and other relevant information regarding the MBE/WBE program.

Certification is valid for three calendar years from the date of initial certification.
You must however update your certification annually in order to continue in the program.
SMBR will notify you of upcoming annual updates.

TUCP - DBE
The City of Austin is a member of the Texas Unified Certification Program, which certifies firms for federal contracting projects across the State of Texas.
TxDOT requests that DBE applicants provide their tax ID number. The Tax Id Number (TIN) can be easily obtained by calling the IRS toll-free number 800-829-4933.
