NEWSPAPERS & INDEXES

New York Times Indexes back to 1933 are on the index tables near the north windows. The Library owns microform of the New York Times back to 1938 with additional holdings from 1929-1931. The citation contains the date, section, page, and column of the article.

A citation looks like this:

The year is the year of the volume you are searching. Paper copies of the Times are the national edition printed in Austin; microform copies are the late edition printed in New York.

More newspapers are available for past years:

  • The Houston Chronicle is available on microfilm from 1995 to the present.
  • The Houston Post is available on microfilm from 1976-1995
  • The Wall Street Journal is available on microform from 1969 to the present

Indexes for all these newspapers are on the index tables near the north windows.

The current two months of the Austin American-Statesman are available in this building. Issues from 1871 to the present are kept at the Austin History Center next door (810 Guadalupe). The paper is available electronically from 1989 to the present.

Many newspapers are available online via the Library's Online Databases. Ask a librarian for instructions on accessing and searching these databases.
