Red, White, and Blue: Patriotic Quilts Honor Soldiers
The Yarborough Branch of the Austin Public Library hosts Red, White, and Blue, an exhibit of 12 patriotic quilts, June 25 through July 25 at 2200 Hancock Dr. The Austin Area Quilt Guild started making these elaborate red, white, and blue quilts in 2004 for families of deceased soldiers. In 2005, Guild members began making quilts and afghans for wounded soldiers at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. To date, the Guild has donated 299 quilts and 53 afghans to wounded recovering military personnel. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
