Phyllis Cartwright Memorial Bench Dedication
Austin Public Library Foundation and AvenueOne Properties Remember Longtime Supporter
Austin, Texas-November 13, 2007 –The Austin Public Library Foundation (APLF) and AvenueOne Properties will hold a memorial bench dedication ceremony for Phyllis Cartwright on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. The ceremony will be held in front of the John Henry Faulk Central library located at 800 Guadalupe at 10 a.m. A reception will be held immediately following the dedication ceremony at the Austin History Center at 810 Guadalupe, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Phyllis Cartwright was an integral part of the APLF both as a Library advocate and a longtime supporter. The bench is a gift from AvenueOne Properties where she had a highly successful career in real estate and served on the board.
A board member of the APLF for several years, Cartwright was committed to the cause of supporting and strengthening Austin’s libraries. Her husband of thirty years, Gary Cartwright, shared in a recent article for the Texas Monthly how much the APLF has benefited from Phyllis’ involvement, “… (it) gave her enormous satisfaction (and gave the Foundation someone who could organize, create and outwork a dozen her size.)”
Phyllis Cartwright was known for exuberance and zest for life. Her presence will be missed.
