For over two decades this holiday tradition continues to grow “ALL AUSTIN” HOLIDAY SALE AT THE AUSTIN HISTORY CENTER
AUSTIN, Texas – December 4, 2006 – Join the Austin History Center Association at the Austin History Center, 810 Guadalupe Street, for holiday festivities and uniquely Austin gifts for sale Saturday, December 9, 2006 from 12:00 noon – 5:00 p.m. This holiday event is free and open to the public. Those attending the Saturday event will have first choice of the new, interactive DVD, “Austin Past & Present,” that brings the history of Austin to life as never seen before. Many other items will also be on sale, including the AHCA’s Waterloo Press books about Austin history; note cards, postcards, and posters with historic Austin images; reproductions of an 1887 Bird’s Eye View map of Austin; and original paintings and prints featuring historic Austin scenes by local artist Mary Curtis.
Visitors will be able to browse the 1933 Italian Renaissance Revival building decorated for the holidays, enjoy holiday refreshments, and view the historic exhibit, “The Avenue: Austin’s Main Street Since 1839,” before it leaves the History Center in January. In celebration of the exhibit, the Association will also have on sale the “Congress Avenue – Main Street of Texas” T-shirt and the historic Congress Avenue postcards and note cards.
All proceeds benefit the Austin History Center Association, which supports the Austin History Center, the local history archives of the Austin Public Library. The Austin History Center Association has hosted annual holiday events at the Austin History Center since 1984, and this 22-year-old holiday tradition continues to grow more popular in Austin each season.
