To wrap up a summer of reading the Austin Public Library will host “Harry and the Potters” as part of their Summer Reading and Rocking Tour 2006. On Thursday, August 10 at 6:00 p.m. the Wooldridge Square Park, located at 9th & Guadalupe Streets, in downtown Austin will come alive with the music of “Harry and the Potters”—an awesome rock show that plays off the popular books by J.K. Rowling. The opening band will be “Draco & the Malfoys”—a back-up band for the Potters with a purpose of celebrating reading through rock & roll music. In October 2005, Harry and the Potters made their first visit to Austin and performed to a standing room only crowd at the St. John Branch Library—youth from all across the region came to the branch library to hear the sounds of this popular teen group. This year's show is guaranteed to be another hit with much more space for those teens in Texas awaiting another visit from this book-savvy punk band, “Harry and the Potters.”

The Potters free show is open to wizards and muggles of all ages. For more information call (512) 974-7400 or visit www.cityofaustin.org/library.

About the group Harry and the Potters

The idea is that the Harry Potter from Year 7 and the Harry Potter from Year 4 started a rock band. And now, no one can stop the wizard rock.

Paul and Joe DeGeorge are brothers. They started this band in the summer of 2002. Joe was planning to have a rock show in the shed in the backyard. People had been invited. But then all the bands cancelled. So that morning, the time was finally appropriate to bust out an idea that had been incubating in Paul's head for some time: Harry and the Potters. That morning, over the course of an hour, Paul and Joe wrote seven songs. Then, they went out to the shed and practiced them for half an hour. And then, later in the day, they performed them for about 6 people. It was awesome. The place went nuts.

Nowadays, they don't just play in sheds, they also play in libraries, bookstores, basements, art galleries, theatres, hot dog jamborees (true story!), and living rooms. Visit www.eskimolabs.com/hp/shows.htm for more information.
