Austin Public Library Wraps-Up Teen Summer Reading Program
With 3rd Annual Teen Fest
Free activities, games, prizes, food, and music provided for teens ages 12-17 and families
The Austin Public Library will host the third annual Teen Fest, a celebration for teens, on Saturday, July 29, 2006 from 2 p.m. to 4p.m. at the Carver Branch of the Austin Public Library, 1161 Angelina located off E. 11th Street. Teen Fest recognizes teens who spent part of their summer reading and concludes SRP.06, the library’s eight-week summer reading program for youth ages 12 to 17.
The library’s celebration includes free games, activities, prizes, snacks, drinks and more. A live DJ—Hue-e will be a part of the festival, slam poets, Karaoke Revolution, will be featured, and booths will display information about local organizations, such as Texas Runaway Hotline, Youth Interactive, Toros (NBA Development League), that provide services for teens.
“We expect hundreds of teens to attend this event,” said Patti Cook, one of APL’s Teen Librarian’s. “We’ve had great participation in this year’s Summer Reading Program, and we’re thrilled to receive such wonderful responses from local organizations willing to participate in the festival.”
The event is made possible through the generous support of sponsors; Austin Energy, Austin Public Library Foundation, Liquid Dreams Custom Pools, Mix 94.7, Friends of the Austin Public Library and others.
