Branch Libraries Plan for a Major Overhaul
This year and next year several of the Austin Public Library Branches will undergo a series of major retrofits of their aging systems and infrastructure. These projects were approved in the Library's 2004 budget as part of its capital improvement and infrastructure renewal program. Much needed renovation work is now being scheduled including the replacement of failing Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units. This work will require several branch libraries to close to the public for several months at a time. Below is the upcoming schedule which is subject to change due to construction timelines and schedules.
The following libraries will be closed for renovation and remodeling projects:
- North Village Branch, 2139 W. Anderson Lane (North Austin): Scheduled to close on Wednesday, December 1, 2004. Projected re-opening is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2005. The book drop will be open through December 23. Books may be returned to any Austin Public Library location. For interim library service in the area please visit the Old Quarry Branch at 7051 Village Center Drive off of Far West Blvd.

- Pleasant Hill Branch, 211 E. William Cannon Drive (South Austin): Scheduled to close on Wednesday, December 1, 2004. Projected re-opening is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2005. The book drop will be open through December 23. Books may be returned to any Austin Public Library location. For interim library service in the area please visit either the Manchaca Road Branch at 5500 Manchaca Road or the Southeast Austin Community Branch at 5803 Nuckols Crossing.
