Central Texas Libraries Share Ideas, Host Discussions on 9/11 as Part of National Project

For the week of September 11, 2004, the Austin Public Library, Round Rock Public Library and Westbank Community Library will join forces to host The September Project, a day of remembrance observed by libraries in over 40 states across the country. Central Texans are invited to commemorate 9/11 by participating in free public deliberations at three Austin Public Library branches. Deliberations will be facilitated by trained moderators from Texasforums.

Events will be held on September 7 at Round Rock Public Library, 216 E. Main, at 7 p.m. in Round Rock, TX and September 8 at the Yarborough Branch, of the Austin Public Library, 2200 Hancock, at 7 p.m. On September 11 at 2 p.m., forums will be held at the following locations: Westbank Community Library, 1309 Westbank Drive, in West Lake Hills; Will Hampton Branch at Oak Hill, 5125 Convict Hill, of the Austin Public Library, Howson Branch, 2500 Exposition, of the Austin Public Library; and Pleasant Hill Branch, 211 East William Cannon, of the Austin Public Library.

Participants will have the opportunity to share ideas about democracy, citizenship and patriotism and to discuss “America’s Role in the World – How It Has Changed from September 11, 2001 to September 11, 2004.” Events planned across the country include shared readings, children’s programs, roundtables, open forums and displays.

Libraries make ideal venues for The September Project as free and public locations. There are over 16,000 libraries across the nation, and libraries in countries as far as Japan, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Australia will also participate in the project.

All programs are free and the public is invited to attend. For more information and a list of participating hosts, visit www.theseptemberproject.org or call the Austin Public Library at (512) 974-7400 or visit www.cityofaustin.org/library.
