Austin Public Library Wraps-Up Teen Summer Reading Program With Blow-out Festival Free activities, games, prizes, food, music provided for teens and families
The Austin Public Library will host Teen Fest, a celebration for teens, on August 5, 2004 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Wooldridge Square Park, located at 9th Street and Guadalupe. Teen Fest recognizes teens who spent part of their summers reading and concludes SRP.04, the library’s eight-week long summer reading program for youth ages 12 to 17.
The library’s celebration includes free games, activities, prizes, sno-cones, popcorn, drinks and more. Teens can try such thrilling activities as the Bungee Run and Velcro Wall or compete against each other on such games as 1-on-1 Electronic Basketball. Grand prize drawings will be awarded to three lucky teens who completed SRP.04. A special performance by the hot, new teen band “Sound Check” will be a part of the festival, and booths will be displayed by various local organizations such as Austin Books and Comics and Latinitas Magazine, among others that provide services for teens with free goodies and giveaways.
“We expect hundreds of youth to attend this event,” said Joanna Nigrelli, APL’s Wired for Youth Librarian. “We’ve had great participation this year with our Summer Reading Program, and we’re excited to receive such a wonderful response from local organizations to participate in the festival.”
The event is made possible through the generous support of sponsors; Austin Energy, Austin Public Library Foundation, Party-n-Jump, Capital Metro, Friends of the Austin Public and more.
