Free Comic Book Day@AustinPublic Library
Saturday, July 3 is Free Comic Book Day, a day when comic book specialty shops and libraries across North America give away free comic books. Help us celebrate this special day by visiting the Library’s partner, Austin Books and Comics, 5002 North Lamar Blvd., and pick up a free comic book. If you can’t make it to Austin Books and Comics on July 3, drop by your local Austin Public Library on Tuesday, July 6 and pick up a free comic book. While you are picking up a free comic, be sure and check out the Library’s new graphic novel sections for adults (call number: GN), teens (call number: GNY), and children (call number: GNJ).
The event’s purpose it to celebrate the rich history of the comic book; to salute the medium's energy, vitality, and boundless creativity; and, most importantly, to invite new readers to visit their local comics shops and libraries and see what comics have to offer. This is the third year that the industry has held Free Comic Book Day. Last year's event coincided with the opening weekend of X2: X-Men United, this year’s Free Comic Book Day will coincide with the opening of Sony/Marvel’s Spider Man.
For further information call the Austin Public Library at 512-974-7400 or visit the Web site at www.cityofaustin.org/library.
