Austin Public Library to Feature Folk Music of Latin America
For a third year in a row the Austin Public Library will feature the musical trio Chaski, which means "messenger" in the Incan language of Quechua. Their spring concert series Peñas Pequeñas, will feature interactive Folk Music of Latin America for young and old audiences. Chaski's music incorporates colorful costumes, traditional dances, cultural and historical insight, audience participation, and musical demonstrations. Chaski's mission is to bring unusual music from other parts of the world to its audiences. The trio has been together since 1985 and has performed all around the world.
You will be able to hear and see this colorful and dynamic trio at the following locations:
· Saturday, April 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Faulk Central Library, 800 Guadalupe
· Tuesday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the Ruiz Branch, 1600 Grove Blvd.
· Thursday, April 29, at 7:00 p.m. at the Manchaca Road Branch, 5500 Manchaca Road Branch
· Tuesday, May 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Windsor Park Branch, 5833 Westminster Drive
· Thursday, May 6, at 4:00 p.m. at the Southeast Austin Community Branch, 5803 Nuckols Crossing Road

This concert series was funded in part by the City of Austin under the auspices of the Austin Arts Commission and the Austin Friends of Traditional Music. All programs are free and the public is invited to attend. For additional information call (512) 974-7400.
About Chaski
The musical trio is made up of three talented musicians: Adrienne Inglis received her music degrees from Lewis and Clark College and the University of Texas at Austin. She teaches flute at Southwestern University, played flute with the Wild Basin Winds, served as principal flute with the Mid-Texas Symphony for many years, and performed on and coordinated the Westminster Sunday Afternoon Music Series in Austin for two years. She recently recorded on the SpyKids 2 orchestral soundtrack with the Texas Philharmonic, playing flute, piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute. Shana Norton graduated with highest honors earning a Bachelor of Music Education from Abilene Christian University and attended the Eastman School of Music, studying with Julia Hermann Edwards and Eileen Malone. In 1995 she graduated from The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs with a Master of Public Affairs degree. She plays principal harp with the Mid-Texas Symphony and works for the City of Austin and performs frequently with the San Antonio Symphony. Dan Dickey earned degrees in Spanish and American Studies and Folklore from the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches Spanish at St. Andrew's Episcopal School, performs with Los Romanceros, and writes educational materials.
