PAST NEWS ARCHIVE East Austin Community of Oak Springs is Building a Playground? The Austin Public Library and KaBoom!, a playground-building charity, are teaming up with the community to build a playscape in East Austin. Join the Austin Public Library on Wednesday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. to show your support and share your ideas for a new playground at the Oak Springs Branch, 3101 Oak Springs Drive. This meeting will take place at the Oak Springs Branch, and will be a chance for residents to help shape the future development of their community, and find out how to get involved in this project. The new playground will be the result of the City of Austin's partnership with private and non-profit organizations to create an opportunity to provide safe and accessible play spaces to Austin's children. KaBOOM! will be contributing in this effort by providing technical assistance, comprehensive playground manuals and worksheets, and other written materials to guide the process toward success. The process of planning for and building the new playground with local volunteers will spark communal pride, responsibility and care for the new playground. About KaBOOM! Since 1995 it has built and renovated more than 1,300 playgrounds. In 2001 KaBOOM! received the chairman's commendation from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, only the sixth such award presented. KaBOOM! is headquartered in Washington, D.C. with offices in Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta and Northern Vermont. For more information, please visit www.KaBOOM.org or contact Kim Rudd at 312-822-5871. ###
