Bless Me, Ultima A Successful Ending

The first book selection of the Mayor's Book Club was a tremendous success. Since the launch of the first citywide reading campaign the book was checked out at branch libraries 3,000 times. Over 300 people attended 11 discussion groups hosted by the Austin Public Library and facilitated by 10 diverse and dynamic University of Texas faculty members. The culmination of this 3 month program was made by a visit from the award winning author Rudolfo Anaya. On October 23 Anaya visited with hundreds of Austinites at an East Austin venue, Fiesta Gardens. He was made an honorary citizen by the Mayor and given a key to the City.
