LIBRARY ANNOUNCES YOUTH LIBRARY CARD WINNER

On Tuesday, August 10, 1999, Austin City Council Member Gus Garcia unveiled the winning entry in the Youth Library Card Design Contest.

Lucia Jazayeri's winning entry will be featured on 200,000 new Austin Public Library Star Cards for children, beginning November 1999. Jazayeri is a 12-year-old Murchison Middle School student who frequents the Old Quarry Branch of the Library.

Four other young artists were recognized for winning in their age category. Pia Sur won for the 0 to 6 age group, Ashley Rodriguez won for the 7- to 10-year-olds, Rebecca Longman took top honors among the 11- to 13-year-olds, and Chloe McCoy won in the 14 to 17 age bracket.

The Star Card is part of an effort to increase awareness among youth about the Austin Public Library's facilities, programs, and resources. H.E.B. Food Stores, Highland Mall, the Austin American-Statesman, and the Austin Public Library Foundation sponsored the month-long contest.
