The mission of the City of Austin's Neighborhood Housing and Community Development (NHCD) is to provide housing, community development, and small business development services to benefit eligible residents so they can have access to livable neighborhoods and increase their opportunities for self-sufficiency.
To accomplish this mission, NHCD directly administers a variety of programs to serve the community's housing, community development, and economic development needs and provides grant funding to various agencies and non-profit organizations.

The City of Austin Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Office has received an increased number of applications for its Down Payment Assistance Program due the interest by residents to participate in the Federal Housing Tax Credit Program for First-Time Home Buyers ($8,000 housing tax credit program).

Groundbreaking Ceremony – Franklin Gardens Senior Housing
On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Groundbreaking Ceremony of a 22-unit facility for affordable senior rental housing was held. Mayor Leffingwell joined Neighborhood Housing and Chestnut Neighborhood Revitalization Corporation board members and community residents for this event. The development will be located at the corner of East MLK Jr. Blvd and EM Franklin. For more information view the following information.

Austin City Council Approves 2009-14 Consolidated Plan
Austin City Council approved the Consolidated Plan at its July 23, 2009 meeting. NHCD will submit the final plan to HUD by August 15, 2009. For information related to the FY 2009-14 Consolidated Plan, visit the Consolidated Plan page.
