Free Cat Spay/Neuter Surgery

A $20,000 state grant recently awarded to Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department's Town Lake Animal Center has been designated to be used for
free spaying and neutering of owned cats that reside east of I-35. The state grant portion ($20,000) comes from the purchase of the animal friendly license plates. It was matched with $20,000 in donations making $40,000 available to the community.
“We are very excited to offer this important free service to pet owners as this program will continue to help the community reduce the number of unwanted kittens and cats coming into the city’s shelter,” says Dorinda Pulliam, assistant director, Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services.
During the months of November, December and January these pet owned cats
will receive free spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination and a microchip from Emancipet.
Emancipet provides free and low-cost spay/neuter services to reduce the homeless pet population. They provide spay/neuter services throughout the Central Texas area via both mobile and stationary clinics serving between 1,200 – 2,000 pets each month.
