Austin Travis County Health and Human Services Department

Free Alternative Health Fair and Seminars to be held November 15th

Ancient traditions suggest that true health includes attention to body, mind, spirit and family wellness. That’s why alternative healthcare providers will come together to present Austin’s first free Alternative Health Fair and Seminar series on Saturday, November, 15th at the Rosewood-Zaragosa Community Center (2800 Webberville Road) from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Austin alternative health providers will share their insight to health and well-being while traditional health providers will offer basic health screenings at this event.

The Holistic Education & Health Network, in conjunction with the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department’s African American Quality of Life Initiative program will be sponsoring health screenings for pregnancy, diabetes, and high-blood pressure. This free event will also treat attendees to healthy product samples, poetry readings, dance demonstrations by the Conley-Guerrero Dance Group, Shaya Polynesian Dance Group, the St. James Genesis Youth Praise Group and Goju-ryu Karate Academy and music by Jam-n-J Productions.

The free lecture series will include seminars on acupuncture by the Academy of Oriental Medicine, a massage lecture and demonstration by Austin Community College, exercise tips by Sabrina McCarty of the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department’s Walk Texas program, and a planting clinic and water harvesting lecture presented by Master Gardener Jacqueline Johnson. Huston-Tillotson College’s Consumer Health Advocate Program will present seminars in English and Spanish on how to find health resources on the web.

Local area businesses supporting and sponsoring this event are: Baby Green Wraps, Subway Sandwiches, Whole Foods, Frito Lay, Performance Health, Soup-er Salad, Texas Welding and the Holistic Education & Health Network.
