3rd Annual “Take a Loved One for a Checkup Day”

What: Take a Loved One for a Checkup Day is a national initiative to encourage people to see a health care professional or make an appointment in the near future. Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services’ African American Quality of Life Initiative is locally spearheading this national campaign to promote greater awareness of the importance of regular health screenings. Free health screenings at the event will include blood sugar, blood pressure, pregnancy as well as immunizations and HIV testing. Medicaid eligibility screening will also be available.

Why: Many people wait until there is an emergency before they go for a checkup. Take a Loved One for a Checkup Day is an excellent way to screen individuals, and where necessary, refer them for follow-up care. Early detection and prevention can enhance the quality of life and extend the lives of people in our community.
