Thank you for your interest in employment with the Austin Fire Department. The Cadet Hiring section is responsible for the administration of all pre-employment tests that applicants must pass prior to being considered for hire. We work with applicants through the entire hiring process from application to placement on the eligibility list and hire into the Cadet Class.
The Fire Cadet Hiring Process web page is the official source for information on AFD’s hiring process. Once our future hiring needs are identified, we will begin planning for the next hiring process. This web page will be updated when new information is available.

The Job Description lists the duties and responsibilities of the position, necessary knowledge, skills and abilities, minimum qualifications and physical requirements of the job.

The Physical Ability Test gives an overview of the CPAT, as well as a recommended work out for getting or staying in shape.
The Austin Fire Cadet Hiring Process is subject to guidelines established by State Civil Service Law and requirements set forth in a collective bargaining agreement with the Austin Firefighters Association (IAFF Local 975) in existence at the time. Specific information on the Hiring Process will be posted on this web page when available.
