The Nerd Bird is back -
Austin-San Jose nonstop takes flight with Alaska Airlines
AUSTIN, TEXAS -- Alaska Airlines will inaugurate daily nonstop service between Austin and San Jose, Calif., starting Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009. The flight is nicknamed the “Nerd Bird” because it connects two high-tech markets. Alaska Airlines will add a second daily Austin-San Jose nonstop starting March 14, 2010.
“The San Jose-Austin route is a natural extension of our network, providing a vital link between two high-tech hubs,” said Andrew Harrison, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of planning and revenue management. “We are excited to offer this new market to our customers.”
At Austin-Bergstrom, check-in for Alaska Airlines is handled at the Delta Air Lines’ ticket counter. The flight will depart San Jose at 8:55 a.m., arriving in Austin at 2:15 p.m. The return flight departs Austin at 3 p.m. and arrives in San Jose at 4:40 p.m., all times local. The service addition in March departs Austin at 8 a.m., arriving in San Jose at 9:40 a.m. and departs San Jose at 5:50 p.m., arriving in Austin at 11:10 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at www.alaskaair.com or by calling 1-800-ALASKAAIR, (1-800-252-7522). Alaska Airlines will operate the flights with Boeing 737-800s, accommodating 16 passengers in first class and 141 in the main cabin.
The Austin - San Jose flight is the second nonstop route introduced by Alaska at Austin-Bergstrom. Alaska Airlines recently joined Austin-Bergstrom International with nonstop service to Seattle on August 3, 2009.
